The drizzly rain didn’t dampen anybody’s spirits as the Trap Agriculture Show returned after a three-year absence.

The show had not been hosted since 2019 due to the Covid-19 pandemic, as a crowd gathered to see the 54th show.

It was also the first year since 2018 that horse events had been included, due to equine flu causing no horse events at the 2019 show.

Presidents for the day were Brian and Shirley James of Broad Oak, who were asked to be presidents at the 2019 show, but were unable to because of Brian’s heart surgery.

Brian, who was born in Ynysyfawnen, Llandyfan, recalled treasured memories of shearing and haymaking times.

After he and Shirley married, they farmed at Gelligron, Llanddeusant and were blessed with two daughters and a son.

Entries were strong in most horse sections, where the supreme Champion was Section C mare ‘Rhyd Ddu Nansi,’ shown by Rhys Davies of Cwmgwili.

Meanwhile, best in show for the sheep was the powerful Texel ram lamb shown by Wyn Thomas of Tycroes.

The Pet Dogs section was also hugely popular with 139 entries in nine classes.

The Domestic and Horticulture tent was as always magnificent with the wide array of talents displayed.

The Caterpillar digger Challenge and children’s sports provided much enjoyment and the evening entertainment of ‘It’s a Knockout’ games, and traditional Quoits were great fun and keenly contested followed by a hog roast and a chance to chat and socialise in the marquee to round the day off.
