South Wales special police officers had a once-in-a-lifetime visit this week when they were invited to the Houses of Parliament to be awarded the Queen's Award for Voluntary Services (QAVS).

The team, along with Specials Chief Officer Dale Cartwright and South Wales Police Assistant Chief Constable Dave Thorne, were hosted by Sir Lindsay Hoyle, Speaker of the House of Commons.

The visit was arranged by local MP Gerald Jones.

The Special Constabulary officers volunteer their services alongside holding down their day jobs and numerous other family and personal commitments.  Their tireless efforts prove an invaluable part to the South Wales Police team.
