Ammanford theatre goers are looking forward to a show to remember when the Ammanford Community Theatre gets back to the boards for their world premier performance of ‘Variety Nightmare’.

The show has been written and directed by Dave Jenkins and includes just about everything needed for a production that’s packed with comedy and loads of character.

“I got the idea when I was involved in a Variety Night production a few years ago,” explains Dave.

“ I saw the way in which all the different characters worked against each other, and it got me thinking about how I could use these ideas for my own production.

"I realised it was an idea I could work with and so I set about writing ‘Variety Nightmare.”

The play follows the plight of the Penybanc Repertory Amateur Theatre company (PRAT) as they attempt to put on a show.

But after a bout of food poisoning, the actors have to back out, resulting in the backstage crew having to take on the responsibility of ensuring the show goes ahead.

“Cue lost voices, forgotten lines, missing props and a healthy dose of stage fright,” laughs Dave Jenkins

“And once the crew start coming to grips with their dancing, mind-reading, juggling, ventriloquism and goodness knows what else, their sense of panic hits overload.

“It’s been a real delight putting this show together, particularly after the difficult few years that we’ve all experienced as a result of the pandemic, and this is the perfect feel-good fun show to get audiences back to the Miners’ Theatre.”

And the enjoyment that Dave and his team have gained in producing the show is obvious.

“Everyone has worked so incredibly hard and has put in so much time and energy into preparing for this production,” he concluded.

“If the audiences enjoy the show anywhere near as much as we’ve enjoyed rehearsing it, then it should be truly a memorable night for everyone.”
