There was something brewing in Ammanford this week when top television presenters Alex Jones and Ameer Davies-Rana hit the town to film a new S4C documentary programme entitled ‘Hanes yr Iaith’.

The programme examines ways in which the Welsh language has evolved in rural areas.  And to help them gain an insight, Alex and Ameer interviewed a selection of Ammanford residents, using Coaltown Coffee Roasters as their base.

“It was great to welcome them both to the town as Ammanford has a very strong Welsh language tradition,” said Twm Morgan, who is operations officer at Coaltown.

“Several generations have been brought up in this area and are still using Welsh as their main language and it’s wonderful to hear it still being spoken to such a great extent in 2022.”

Alex and Ameer are both born and bred Ammanford natives. Alex, of course, is presenter of BBC’s The One Show, and is from Tycroes, while 24-year-old Ameer is a regular presenter on BBC Radio Cymru’s Friday night slot between 6pm and 8pm.

Ameer is particularly well-known for his campaign '1Miliwn' which tours around the schools, colleges and universities of Wales promoting the Welsh language.

During their visit to Ammanford, Alex and Ameer also spoke to the club captain of Ammanford AFC, Rhys Fisher, and team mate Euros Griffiths and met up with locals in the town centre including Lawrence Molloy.

‘Hanes yr Iaith’ is expected to be shown on S4C this November.
