Ammanford was the focus of a new episode of Rookie Cops, BBC’s documentary looking at new officers in the Dyfed-Powys Police force, which aired last night (Monday, April 25).
Much of the show looked at Emma and her tutor Ash, as they travelled to Ammanford from Llanelli due to reports of a stabbing.
In the episode, Emma and Ash drove around Ammanford looking for the attacker, as officers at Ammanford Police Station were tied up with the victim.
A spokesperson from Dyfed-Powys Police said: “It’s really important that whenever they can, different officers deal with a victim and a suspect.
“This separation is crucial when we rely on forensic evidence as part of a case, to reduce the chance of that evidence being accidentally transferred.”
The spokesperson continued: “What we’re seeing in Ammanford sums up policing – anything can happen at any time of the day. Whenever it does, our officers will be there to help – 24/7.”
The Joint Firearms Unit joined Emma and Ash in Ammanford as they visited the address of the suspect.
The police spokesperson added: “The situation is being led by specialist officers from the Joint Firearms Unit.
“We work alongside South Wales Police and Gwent Police providing a 24/7 armed response to incidents across the south of Wales.”
Other sections of the episode focused on Sam chasing an abandoned 999 call, and fellow Milford Haven officer Gething attending to children climbing some scaffolding in the town.
Meanwhile, Caity got used to her new patch in Aberystwyth.
The next episode airs on Monday, May 2, with last night’s episode available to see on BBC iPlayer.
