Carmarthenshire featured in the second episode of Rookie Cops, the new BBC documentary focusing on new officers in the Dyfed-Powys police force, which was screened last night (Monday, April 18).

Sections of the show focused on Phil, and his tutor Burt, as they went through taser training, and went to the house of a wanted man in Llanelli.

On his first day as an officer, an arrest made after an intense stand off outside the man’s house, who was wanted for actual bodily harm and stalking.

A spokesperson from Dyfed-Powys Police said: “Everyone remembers their first day in policing, and there’s a lot to learn.

“That’s where our tutors are so valuable in passing on their knowledge and experience to our new student officers. But even they’d agree every day is still a learning day.

“There are never two days the same when you’re a police officer – sometimes not even two hours are the same!

“This was definitely a first arrest to remember for Phil. The most important thing all round was that this was done as safely as possible, both for the suspect and for officers.”

Other parts of the episode looked at Lisa in Lampeter looking for a man who breached a domestic violence protection order, and Stuart who was on the search for a dog trapped in a hot van on a summer’s day at Broad Have beach.

The next episode airs on Monday, April 25, with the first and second episode available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
