AMMAN Valley man Jac Morgan made a perfect response to missing to out on selection for Wales for the autumn series of internationals, with a man of the match performance for Ospreys in the United Rugby Championship on Saturday.

The 21 year-old, from Brynamman, who joined from the Scarlets in the summer, led the assault in the loose with his aggression as a carrier and resolve as a defender as Ospreys halted Munster’s unbeaten start to the season with an 18-10 win.

Fly-half Stephen Myler enjoyed a flawless night at the tee, kicking six penalties as Munster were made to pay for their indiscipline, but it was Morgan who deservedly the took man of the match accolade after a very influential performance.

“I’m really enjoying it out there, the boys have been working hard over the last few weeks, so it’s nice for us to get a performance like that and a victory against Munster. It was a team performance and we worked well together," he said.

“We spoke in the week about needing a team performance and that’s what we got, and it’s nice to get the victory. We were under pressure, but we knew as long as we could ride the wave and stick to our way of playing, we’d come out on top.”

Morgan, who showed humility in the wake of the Wales team announcement, had made no assumptions about securing a place in Wayne Pivac’s squad, but his performances for the Ospreys have earned the praise of head coach Toby Booth.

“Jac’s a very humble guy and very respectful, so I don’t think he would have expected to be included (in the Wales squad),” said Booth. “That doesn’t take away from his long-term ambition, of course. He knows his performances have to stack up.

“If they keep stacking up, a player will keep knocking on the door. That’s what coaches want, players who are knocking on the door with their performances, and we are very pleased with how he’s been going for us.

“He’s a very young man who’s just started his Ospreys journey, and we hope that his Ospreys journey ends up with Jac in a Welsh jersey. We’ll do everything we can to try and get him there.”
