Carmarthenshire Council is working with Dyfed-Powys Police and Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service to ensure everyone stays safe this Hallowe'en and bonfire night.

Residents and businesses are being asked to enjoy fireworks safely and responsibly, to respect neighbours and protect the NHS and emergency services.

There are a number of ways to stay safe including attending an organised public display.

Carmarthenshire Council has issued some tips and safety advice:

  • If you are buying fireworks then purchase them from a reputable retailer that is registered with the local authority and ensure they carry the CE mark.
  • Avoid buying noisy fireworks as the unexpected nature of fireworks can often leave vulnerable people and pets feeling scared and anxious.
  • Tell neighbours if you plan to hold your own display well in advance so they can make necessary arrangements.
  • Avoid prolonged displays and keep fireworks until November 5.
  • Businesses organising public events are to advertise well in advance.

Carmarthenshire Council’s cabinet member for public protection, Cllr Philip Hughes said: “We want people to enjoy themselves this November 5 but it needs to be done safely and responsibly and to protect our emergency services and the vulnerable.

"By going to organised public display will often be more dazzling that holding one of your own in the garden. If you can’t get to a local organised display then please remember to consider your neighbours, any pets or livestock and keep fireworks away from children.

"Always follow the instructions on the labels and buy less noisy or silent ones.”
