Carmarthenshire residents have been fined for breaching coronavirus rules.

They have been left to pay a hefty bill for either gathering in groups or getting caught out and about during lockdown this year, breaking covid rules.

A Covid breach means, on average, a whopping fine of £1,760 – with costs added on top of that.

Here we sum up some of the most recent cases in Carmarthenshire.

Steven Matthew Thomas, 37, of Maes y Glyn, Glanamman.

Thomas was fined for being outside in an alert level 4 area of Wales, without a reasonable excuse.

The offence took place on February 28, at Tumble Park.

The case against him was proved under the single justice procedure at Llanelli Magistrates’ Court in August.

Thomas was fined £1,760, ordered to pay a surcharge of £176 to fund victim services and £90 costs.

Brandon Scott Thomas, 21, of Erw Non, Llannon, Llanelli.

Thomas was found to be away from his home on March 12 this year, at Ystradgynlais, during lockdown and while Wales was under alert level 4.

The case against him was proved in his absence under the single justice procedure at Llanelli Magistrates’ Court in August.

He was fined £1,200, must pay a surcharge of £110 to fund victim services and £90 costs.

Rhys Levi John, 19, of Graigwen, Llwynhendy, Llanelli.

John was fined for being outside in an alert level 4 area of Wales without a reasonable excuse.

The offence took place on January 17, 2021 at Glyncastle House, Resolven, Neath.

The case against him was proved in his absence at Cardiff Magistrates’ Court in August.

John was fined £1,760 and made to pay a surcharge to fund victim services of £176, as well as costs of £90.

Luke Hywel John, 19, of Graigwen, Llwynhendy, Llanelli.

John was fined for being outside in an alert level 4 area of Wales, without a reasonable excuse.

The offence took place on January 17 at Glyncastle House, Resolven, Neath.

The case against him was proved in his absence at Cardiff Magistrates’ Court in August.

He was fined £1,760, ordered to pay a surcharge of £176 and £90 costs.

Anton Delli-Bovi, 21, of Maes y Glo, Llanelli.

Delli-Bovi was found to be away from his home, without reasonable excuse, while Wales was in lockdown under alert level 4, Cardiff Magistrates’ Court heard.

The offence took place at Heol Wyllt, Pontarddulais, on February 6.

Delli-Bovi admitted the charge under the single justice procedure.

He was fined £200, ordered to pay a £34 surcharge and £90 costs.

Stewart Leigh, 25, of Trosserch Road, Llangennech, Llanelli.

Leigh was fined for participating in a gathering of two or more people without reasonable excuse while in an alert level 4 area of Wales, Cardiff Magistrates’ Court heard.

The offence took place at Ty Glamorgan, Clayton Drive, Pontarddulais, on March 28.

Leigh pleaded guilty and was fined £320 by magistrates. He was also ordered to pay a £34 surcharge and £90 costs.

Margaret Anne Jenner, 72, of Grenig Road, Glanaman.

Jenner was fined for being away from home, without reasonable excuse, in an alert level 4 area of Wales.

The offence took place on February 18, at Ffordd Parc Felindre, Llangyfelach, Swansea.

Jenner pleaded guilty under the single just procedure and was not present for the hearing at Cardiff Magistrates’ Court in September.

She was fined £320, ordered to pay £34 to fund victim services and £90 costs.

Ieuan Petty, 25, of Gorsfach, Llanelli.

Petty was fined for participating in a gathering of two or more people without reasonable excuse while in an alert level 4 area of Wales.

The offence took place at Ty Glamorgan, Clayton Drive, Pontarddulais on March 28.

The case against him was proved in his absence at Cardiff Magistrates’ Court and he was fined £1,760.

Petty must also pay a £176 surcharge and £90 costs.
