TUMBLE man Billy McBryde says he is happy to keep playing his rugby in England, after extending his contract with Doncaster Knights.

McBryde joined the Knights last summer as the Welsh Premiership’s top point scorer, having notched 163 points, including six six tries, for RGC 1404.

He has since become one of their main play-makers, and the former Wales Under-20s international has committed to another campaign.

“I’m delighted to have re-signed with the Knights for another season," said McBryde, a former pupil at Ysgol Gyfun Maes y Gwendraeth.

"The results we’ve had this season are exciting and show what we’re capable of, I’m really happy with the progress I’ve made on the pitch personally also.

"I’m enjoying my time at Doncaster and working with the coaches and team mate, and I am looking forward to seeing the fans back and playing in front of a packed Castle Park.”

McBryde had joined RGC ahead of the 2018/19 season, and played 50 consecutive games, having developed through the Scarlets and Llanelli youth programmes.

He made his Llanelli debut aged 18 as a substitute against Cross Keys, and a year and a half later he made his Scarlets debut against Bath in the Anglo-Welsh Cup.

He was selected for Wales U20s for the 2016 Six Nations Under 20s Championship, and his debut came in the opening game against Scotland U20s.

Coming on in the 79th minute, he immediately scored a penalty to win the game for Wales - and was selected again for the 2016 World Rugby U20s Championship.

He became one of Steve Boden’s first new signings as head coach at Doncaster, after a successful spell with north Wales’ regional club RGC 1404.

In his first season in the Championship, he has quickly adapted to the environment and his performances, particularly in recent weeks, have impressed many.

He has featured in every game this Championship season, coming off the bench in the opening game against Ampthill, and then starting every game since.

The 24-year-old has played predominantly at full back, but shown his adaptability, slotting in at stand off, even scrum half when needed by the Knights..

Indeed, his ability to attack the line and create space for his outside backs was evident against Saracens and Richmond recently, and his rangy kicking game provided much assurance from the backfield.

“Billy is a highly valued member of our team, he brings a great calmness to our back line and adds very valuable leadership," said Knights' head coach Bolden.

"Billy has fitted in extremely well, and has been a huge driver of standards within our environment."
