Children from Betws have taken part in the Captain Tom 100 challenge to raise money for the Royal British Legion.

The Captain Tom 100 invited people to dream up a challenge based around the number 100 and complete it anytime and anywhere over Captain Sir Tom Moore’s birthday weekend (Friday, April 30 to Bank Holiday, Monday, May 3).

The children living in Parc Penrhiw decided to take on a 100 steps challenge in nearby Garnswllt.

One mum, Cassie Hooper said: “The walk was initially planned for the bank holiday Monday, but unfortunately the weather was far too windy and wet for the children so it was postponed until the Thursday, May 6, when the weather was much brighter.

"We raised a total of £75 for the Royal British Legion.”

Captain Tom’s daughter, Hannah Ingram-Moore, said: “The support from around the world for the Captain Tom 100 has been incredible on what would have been my father’s 101st birthday.

"It was the perfect way to celebrate his remarkable achievements and also ensure his message of hope lives on.”
