COMMUNITY volunteers in Llandeilo have launched a litter pick scheme to 'tackle and tidy' the rubbish in the area.

The initiative has been called Taclo - a Wanglish word created by co-founder Dan Morris - meaning both tackling and tidy.

During a recent litter pick in the town the group of 16 volunteers collected over 18 bags of rubbish in just a few hours.

Dan said: "A minority of people spoil it for the rest of us, but another minority is happy to see the wider picture for the community and just pick the litter up.

“I hope in the future streets will form groups and take responsibility for each road themselves.”

Christoph Fischer, who set up the group with Dan said seeing a man walking from Pen y Banc to Llandeilo every day with a bag picking up rubbish spurred him to take action.

"It has become a personal goal for me for some time to set something like this up in an organised and regular fashion," he said.

The Festival of Senses and Llandeilo town council provided the high vis vests and litter pickers and the group aims to take to the streets of Llandeilo every two to four weeks.

LAS Recycling from Lampeter have offered to collect and recycle the bags free of charge.

Volunteer, Charlotte Walker said: “We had great fun doing this. People on the street have been very appreciative with many keen to join in. I hope Taclo will become a nationwide movement.”
