Tycroes teen launches ethical clothing company and donates percentage of profits to NHS

Sam Jones launched his ‘Square One’ brand and is determined to give something back to the frontline workers who have risked their lives through the coronavirus outbreak.

Determined to prove you can do something new, despite the restraints of a global pandemic, he is producing high-quality t-shirts using organically spun cotton, which have been deemed vegan friendly, and boast the Fair Wear logo.

Sam, 18, who lives at home with his parents in Tycroes, said: “The lockdown gave me the time to start something new and literally start at square one.

“I’ve always been interested in fashion and environmentally friendly, so the two things tallied together really nicely.

“Now, more than ever, people are thinking about the world we live in and how we can be kinder to the environment. Every t-shirt I produce is created with that ethos.”

Sam, who has pledged to donate five per cent of all his profits to the NHS, invested his hard earned savings from his time working at his family's property business to start his new clothing line and has healthy projected sales for his first quarter, thanks to his online shop.

He said: “Now, more than ever, you realise how hard certain sectors work to help others. I just wanted to do my bit to say thank you. I know it’s not a lot but I hope it helps – even if it’s just a little.”

At the moment, Sam is producing t-shirts, but hopes to expand to hoodies, sweatpants and shorts with the intention of opening pop-up shops in the future.

He said: “This is just the beginning. Many people, including myself, have now found the time to try news hobbies and to start their own businesses. It’s been an opportunity to try something new that I feel passionately about.

“I have literally started from square one, hence the name, and I hope my brand will offer encouragement and support to others who have been brave enough to follow their dreams.”
