Plans for a takeaway dinner service for the elderly to open in Betws have been submitted to the planning department at Carmarthenshire County Council.

An application to change the current business of Western Shooting Supplies in Betws into a community kitchen specialising in wholesome foods with emphasise on home cooking was registered on July 19.

The plans have been submitted by applicants Edward and Jayne Lee, who would like to offer a plated takeaway dinner service with deliveries to the elderly and infirm in the local area.

Award winning chef Jayne is known for her high standard of food quality having and currently working in the care industry for over 20 years.

The prosed opening times for the business, situated at 2 Ffordd Y Glowyr, are 7am until 10am, 12midday until 2.30pm and 4pm until 7pm Monday to Friday and 12pm until 3pm on Sundays and Bank Holidays.

The application states: “We anticipate that the kitchen will be open at key times covering Sunday Lunches and during the teatime window not needing to be open late into the night.

“We do not consider this to be a traditional chip shop, pizza or burger establishment that is open late into the night this is not the clientele that we will be catering for.”

“Jayne will specialise in specific vulnerable client dietary needs, liaising with community care workers and nurses to accommodate local, mostly elderly, client needs as she does now.”

The plans state that Western Shooting Supplies will still operate from the much smaller building next door under a strict “by appointment only”.

The application confirms that there are no objections from neighbours with the proposed business having already experience and been a regular customer of this type of service in a previous location.

The application reads: “Neighbours are looking forward again to being able to enjoy the time saving meals for the busy lifestyle they have.

“Anecdotal and direct requests to continue to provide this service in the local area after the previous business closed due to the previous location landlord closing the premises was substantial.

“The Facebook community and clientele were very supportive but disappointed when that business closed.

“The general feeling is that this would be very beneficial to the area especially in respect to the house bound, elderly and infirm.”
