Pupils from Ysgol Dyffryn Aman and Ysgol Bro Dinefwr have staged a climate change strike in Ammanford.

The protest took place on Wednesday, June 26 and was organised by Ysgol Dyffryn Aman pupil Magda Smith who was inspired by the protests in London.

Madga said: “I organised the protest about a week ago.

“We all got written consent and we made some posters in school.

“Some home educated students joined us as well as a friend from Ysgol Bro Dinefwr and a volunteer from Ammanford drama group Mess Up The Mess.

“I did some research online and found out the strikes in London so I got some friends and classmates together to see who wanted to participate.”

The group stood at the top of Quay Street and received positive feedback from members of the public with some residents stopping to about the strike.

The youngsters also went into some local business to talk about the protest and share some information regarding global warming.

“We went into a few businesses in Ammanford and spoke to members of the public who were in town,” added Magda.

“We just discussed how they can help by picking up rubbish of the floor, walk more or even ride a bike to school or work.

“I read a statistic that if nothing is done in 30 years the whole sea will be rubbish.

“This protest is not just for benefit but also our children and their children and the future generation.
