A new Chair and Deputy Chair were elected at the Annual General Meeting of Mid and West Wales Fire Authority for the 2019-21 municipal years.
Swansea Councillor Jan Curtice was appointed as Chair of the Fire Authority, while Carmarthenshire Councillor Elwyn Williams was appointed Deputy Chair.
Councillor Curtice joined the Fire Authority in 2012 and was Deputy Chair of the Authority for the 2017-19 municipal years.
Councillor Curtice said: “I am immensely privileged to be afforded this opportunity to be Chair of the Fire Authority for the forthcoming two years. Whilst I do not underestimate the challenges of the role ahead, as this is no doubt an extremely challenging time for the Fire Authority; I am also confident that as a Fire and Rescue Authority we have a crucial role to play in our communities and I look forward to advancing the role of the Service over the coming years”.
Councillor Williams is also one of the longest serving Members of the Authority, having also joined the Authority on 6 June 2012.
Councillor Williams added: “I am delighted to be undertaking the role of Deputy Chair of the Fire Authority. I would like to thank my colleagues on the Authority for their vote of confidence and can assure you that I will do my upmost to support the Chair in highlighting the role and remit of the Fire Authority and the current economic pressures facing the Service”.
