Gorslas Carnival 2019 begins when the OVO National Women’s Cycle Race passes through the village at lunchtime on Saturday, June 15.

Starting in Carmarthen, the gruelling 78-mile course travels over some of the toughest road cycling routes in the county.

Travelling from Ammanford, Cael Hendre and Penygroes, having come over the Black Mountain, the 60+ riders will be cycling down Penygroes Road and crossing Gorslas Square before travelling along Cefneithin Road as they down the Gwendraeth Valley for the finish of Stage 6 at Pembrey Country Park.

The race is expected in Gorslas from 12.30pm onwards though timings are approximate. Traffic will be controlled by police and marshals with queues likely. Once the cycle race has passed through, the carnival floats will leave Church Road and travel towards Gwernllwyn Nursing Home from where the Carnival procession will start.

Organisations of carnival floats by Gwernllwyn takes place at 1.30pm, Carnival procession begins at 2pm along Cross Hands Road to Gorslas Square, Church Road and ends in Gorslas Industrial Estate.

Presentations to Carnival float competition winners takes place at 3pm and there will be family entertainment at Tafarn y Phoenix from 3.30pm with a children’s disco and entertainer.

The winners of the competitions and raffle draw will be revealed at Tafern y Phoenix at 4.15pm.

Evening entertainment at Tafarn y Phoenix, including music by popular Welsh group Baldande, starts at 7pm until late.

Children will not be allowed in Tafarn y Phoenix after 9.30pm.

There will be no marquee at Gorslas Park as the focus of the afternoon’s events once with carnival procession has ended will be at Tafarn y Phoenix.
