A yellow weather warning for ice has been issued by the Met Office.

The yellow warning covers most of Wales and is in place from 4pm on Tuesday, January 22 until 11am on Wednesday, January 23.

It comes as snow fell in many parts of Wales on Tuesday morning.

The Met Office warning states: "Ice will form in places later on Tuesday afternoon and overnight into Wednesday, especially where wintry showers leave surfaces wet.

"Further wintry showers on Tuesday evening will bring more snow to the hills and some to low lying areas. Some clear spells likely too.

"A widespread frost will form, with icy patches.

"Further hail, sleet and snow showers are also likely at times.

"Accumulations of several centimetres are likely above 200 metres, mainly across western Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales and northwest England.

"A small amount of settling snow (1cm or less) is also possible at lower levels in a few places."
