ANGRY residents are demanding to have speeding tickets voided after an incorrect speed limit sign was left in place in Ammanford.

A number of motorists received speeding tickets when travelling from Ammanford to Glanaman on Pontamman Road.

An incorrect speed limit sign suggested the road through Pontamman was a 40mph limit, when it was a 30mph limit.

As a result, a number of speeding tickets were sent out to drivers, caught doing more than 30mph.

Photographs of the signs were sent by some to the council to show the incorrect sign, and a number have been voided.

However, others have been told they will still have to pay the fine.

One driver caught out said: “It isn’t fair.

“We were driving to what we thought the speed limit was. We have shown the council that there was a 40mph sign there.

“They have said they knew the sign was there, but it wasn’t removed because they were investigating how it got there.

“I don’t understand how they can write off the tickets for some people and not others.

“I really can’t get my head around it.”

Another, who had their speeding ticket rescinded, added: “There could be however many other people who have been caught out by the sign who may not know that they could get it cancelled.”

Carmarthenshire County Council have been approached for a comment but didn’t respond before publication.
