A TRIO of Ammanford friends have completed a trek to Machu Pichu, Peru, raising more than £5,000 for charity in the process.

Iwan Mainwaring, Neil Windsor-Jones and Roger Davies completed the seven-day Inca Trail trek of Machu Pichu.

All three were raising money for charities and causes in the local area, and managed to collect more than £5,000.

Iwan was hiking in memory of his father, and Ammanford RFC legend, Tom Mainwaring, as well as raising money for the Welsh Hearts Foundation and Ryan4Luekaemia.

Iwan lost his father to a heart attack at the age of 62 in August 2016. As a result, money from his trek will be uses to install a defibrillator on the Recreation Ground, in Ammanford.

Speaking on his justgiving page, Iwan said: “My dad’s death was so sudden, and if I can make a difference and stop this happening to another family, I’m sure he would be proud.

“The number of young and older people that spend time down the rec every week are in the 100s, and having a defibrillator there could potentially save lives.”

Neil Windsor-Jones has raised money for the Stroke Association due to his mother suffering a stroke just before Christmas last year, and also for the Bobby Dickie Trust.

Roger Davies raised money for the Bobath Children's Therapy Centre Wales in memory of his friends son, Hari.

Between them, they have raised over £5000 and are grateful for all donations and support they have received.
