A CREATIVE baker has been recognised in the biggest cake competition in the world.

Kay Augustus, of Myddynfych, entered Cake International once again this year, a leading baking show where sweet enthusiast form across the glove exhibit their creative masterpiece.

After being awarded silver at last year’s competition, Kay entered the wedding cake three tiers or more category for the third time with hope of beating her previous scores.

The mother-of-two said: “The Little Mermaid is my ultimate favourite Disney movie and I decided to use the film as inspiration for my competition entry as it’s very colourful.

“The cake was four tiers with the top two tiers sort of hovering over a reef and it took around three weeks to make.”

In order to better her chances at this year’s event, Kay spent hours learning new techniques to sure she impressed the judges.

“The judges really like detail and I ended up scoring 90 out of 100 this year, which is gold,” added Kay, owner of Augustus Gloop Cakes.

“I was over the moon and so surprised.

“We find out our scores the day after we drop off our cakes.

“I was really nervous and was one of the first people to go into arena to find out my score on the Saturday.”

“The judges’ comments were really lovely which was really nice to hear.”

The baker even got advice from Suzanne Thorp off Channel 4’s Extreme Cake Makers who admired Kay’s detailed design.

Although this is the third time Kay has entered the competition, the baker has said that she will be entering the competition again.

“Every year I think why I am entering again but I enjoy it so much.”

As well as being recognised in competitions, Kay was also nominated for a wedding award earlier this year.

“I pride myself on having a five-star hygiene rating and being fully insured so to be noticed in these big competitions is amazing,” she added.
