An Ammanford-based accountancy firm have been recognised for working in partnership with the fire service to protect the community.

Vinal Patel and Gemma Walters have been praised by their employer Ashmole and Co for their dedication to their role within the firm and as On-Call Firefighters.

Vinal, who joined Ashmole & Co in 2002, said: “I have been an On-Call Firefighter since 2013.

“As our office is so close to the Fire Station in Ammanford we can see the crews going out to calls.

“I have my own pager and I have been on a few calls over the years.

“The first two years training is hard but now I feel fully confident.

“I really enjoy being part of the fire service team and keeping the community safe.”

Both Vinal and Gemma, who works alongside Pontyates fire service, also attend fire training sessions in their spare time.

Laura Craddock, of Ashmole and Co, added: “Both Vinal and Gemma work exceptionally well and are dedicated members of staff and we are really proud of them.

“I would definitely recommend other businesses to work alongside the emergency services to help the community.

“We are very proud to work alongside the fire service in Ammanford.”

Ashmole and Co were presented with a plaque from Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service last week for helping to protect the community.

Group Manager Geraint Thomas, Head of Carmarthenshire Response, said: “We are proud to work with Ashmole & Co in protecting the community of Ammanford.

“It is important to recognise the contribution of local employers who allow their staff to turn out to emergency incidents, on behalf of the Fire and Rescue Service.

“By allowing staff to serve as On-Call Firefighters, local employers such as Ashmole and Co are ensuring that their community is as safe as possible.

“There are also other benefits for employers.

“Your employees will receive a high standard of training; in areas such as Manual Handling, Health and Safety and First Aid.

“Your staff will also receive upskilling in a number of ways, which include development of teamwork, problem solving and communication skills.

“There are also opportunities for management development and qualifications within the Fire Service and, of course, the raising of profile for your company or organisation.
