Businesses in Ammanford have welcomed the reinvestment in CCTV cameras in the town as work nears completion as part of the Dyfed Powys Police CCTV Project.

Nine cameras are now live across the town and the remaining camera, which will be located near the new road layout at Tirydail Lane, will be installed by the end of October 2018.

The work has been carried out as part of the Police and Crime Commissioner Dafydd Llywelyn’s reinvestment in the CCTV provision across the Dyfed-Powys Police force area.

Ammanford is the fifth town in Dyfed-Powys to benefit from the upgraded CCTV system.

A modern CCTV Monitoring Room is also being introduced in the Force Communication Centre at Police Headquarters, Llangunnor, which will allow for cameras to be monitored centrally by dedicated staff.

Dafydd Llywelyn, Dyfed-Powys Police and Crime Commissioner, said: “I have visited business owners in the town to speak to them about the installation of CCTV cameras. Those I spoke to are very supportive of the use of CCTV in preventing and detecting crime. I’m glad that my key pledge to reintroduce CCTV in the Dyfed-Powys Police force area is being well-received amongst the communities that need it most.”

Mark Collins, Dyfed-Powys Police Chief Constable, said: “I am sure the cameras will be of huge benefit in preventing and detecting crime in Ammanford Town Centre. The CCTV Project is being managed by a dedicated team, working closely with the contractors and ensuring good progress is made in the delivery of this complex project.”

The ICT Product and Programme Manager for Dyfed Powys Police, Marie McAvoy, said: “The roll-out plan is progressing well. In addition to the installation of cameras in Ammanford we have also started installing the new cameras in Llanelli which I anticipate will be completed over the next week. The CCTV Project Team is working behind the scenes to ensure that all relevant permissions are in place to allow for the installation programme to progress further. The towns planned to see a re-investment in CCTV over the coming months are Haverfordwest, Aberystwyth, Milford Haven and Tenby.”
