Ammanford’s Alex Jones has been announced as one of the presenters of this year’s Invictus Game coverage taking place in Sydney.

The 40-year-old is set to present the games alongside JJ Chalmers as 72 people from the UK Armed Forces team compete in a series of sports in the fourth Invictus Games.

Founded by Prince Harry in 2014, the Invictus Games is an international multi-sport event that is open to all wounded, injured and sick serving personnel and veterans.

Over 1,100 people registered their interest for a place in the UK team and over 400 hopefuls were trialled for the squad.

Alex said: “It’s an absolute honour to have been asked to present the Invictus Games 2018 and I can’t wait to get to Sydney and learn more about all of the inspirational stories of the competitors.

“I’m so excited to be working alongside JJ Chalmers and to be right in the middle of the action.

“It’s something completely new to me, but we’ve covered the Invictus Games a lot on The One Show and we’ve interviewed The Duke of Sussex about it and it’s such a special and amazing event.

“It’s a sport event essentially, but of course there’s a lot more to it than that.

“We all really respect the military and what they do and the Invictus Games really helps us have a greater understanding of what it is that they’ve done for us and how their time and service has affected the armed forces.

“I think the games are going to be full of both humbling and inspirational moments not to be missed.

Presenter and Invictus Games 2014 competitor JJ Chalmers added: “Have no doubt - Invictus Sydney is going to be awesome.

“The Games changed my life so I live for the opportunity to help showcase them, especially as they continue to grow, educate, inspire and entertain.

“I cannot wait to share this amazing experience with Alex. If we are able to channel even a small bit of the energy and spirit of Invictus into people's living rooms they're in for an enjoyable and powerful watch.”

The Invictus Games programming begins this Friday, October 19 with the preview show and coverage of the games themselves begins on BBC One every day from Sunday, October 21 until Saturday 27 October.
