An Ammanford primary school has become the second school in Carmarthenshire to receive an award which celebrates bilingualism.

Ysgol Bro Banw was presented with a trophy before the end of term having achieved the bronze award for the Siarter Iaith (Welsh Charter) – a national initiative to raise the profile of the Welsh language in schools.

Challenge adviser Catrin Griffiths and Julie Owen, Uwch AGGaD, visited the school to present the pupils with the award on July 14.

School teacher and co-ordinator of the Siarter Iaith Mark Essery, acting head teacher Linda Bates and newly appointed headteacher Peter Evans joined the pupils to celebrate the achievement at a special assembly.
