Ysgol Saron and Ammanford Alzheimer's Society has benefitted from a share of £15,000 from the Nolan Charity Fund.

Following a second year of fundraising the Welsh charity, set up in 2015 by Nolan uPVC businessman Nolan Nicholas, has donated to six beneficiaries in Carmarthenshire.

Each of the beneficiaries were recognised at the charity’s second, annual presentation evening on April 6 at Parc Y Scarlets, Llanelli, by the charity’s trustees Nolan Nicholas and Robert Taylor in front of more than 50 invited guests including Chairman of Llanelli Rural Council, Councillor Steve M Donoghue.

Benefiting from a share of the money raised by the charity in 2016 are, from Carmarthenshire, Alzheimer’s Society Cymru receiving £2,500 to help relocate their Ty Perthyn Day Care Support Service in Ammanford; Canolfan Elfed Inclusion Centre at Queen Elizabeth High School receiving £1,000 to help towards the purchase of a Rompa interactive projection system; Carmarthenshire Youth Support Service’s Food Hamper and Toy Appeal receiving £1,000 to ensure that the project can continue to support children, young people and families in need in 2017; Hywel Dda Health Charities receiving £1,300 to purchase iPads and DVD players for the children’s wards at Bronglais, Glangwili and Withybush hospitals; Ysgol Saron receiving £2,000 to purchase IT and play equipment for two pupils at the school with Down syndrome and Duchenne syndrome; and Welsh Hearts receiving £1,400, to fund a new defibrillator and cabinet.

Speaking after Thursday’s presentation evening, Nolan Nicholas, said: “It was a wonderful evening and a great way to mark two years as a charity.

“We have now donated over £25,000 to nearly 20 worthy causes in Wales since the charity began, and to recognise this year’s beneficiaries on Thursday evening was a great honour for me.

“There are so many organisations that need a helping hand to realise their goals and aspirations and I am so please to see that the Nolan Charity Fund is able to do this to ensure all the good work in Wales can continue.”

On receiving their funding on Thursday evening, Gwenda Easton, Headteacher at Ysgol Saron, said: “This has been a very exciting time for us here as we feel we never have enough in our budget to provide equipment for individual pupils needs.

“The money will not only improve the standard of provision, but will also ensure that both pupils develop improved communication and social skills that will enable them to be more fully involved in the community around them.

In total, 11 beneficiaries will share the donation of £15,000. The other organisations receiving funding include Happy Days; Y Bont; Tenovus Cancer Care; Reach for the Stars; and Tenby Surf Life Saving Club.
