Postal services look set to return to Brynaman after a local centre stepped in to save the day.

The Black Mountain Centre has been named as the new premises for Post Office local, a new concept for delivering Post Office services in a modern open-plan branch which will see extended opening hours.

Delighted by the news centre co-ordinator, Scott Davies, said: "Local residents will know how important a Post office is as a community focal point and resource. The recent closure of Brynaman Post Office left a gap in our community, but we are proud to announce that the new Post Office will re-open in the centre.

"I am very happy that we have been able to reach an agreement with the Post Office Counters to re-open the Post Office. This resource will not only support the sustainability of the Centre but also that of the local communities."

County Councillor Glynog Davies added: "I'm so pleased that the Black Mountain Centre has stepped in to try and resolve the impact made by the closure of the village Post Office. This is an exciting time. So many rural villages are suffering because of the closure of banks and other amenities within their communities and this news goes against that trend."

Should the move go ahead, the branch would open from 9am – 4.30pm Monday to Friday and 9am to 12pm on Saturday.

The Post Office is now inviting customers and interested parties to give their comments on the move in a six-week public consultation.

Further information is available at The Black Mountain Centre reception area.

During the public consultation, Post Office Ltd welcomes feedback on any issues customers would like considered before a final decision is taken on this proposal.

The consultation will close on March 31.

Submissions can be made during the consultation by Freepost Your Comments to Post Office Ltd, via email to comments@postoffice.co.uk, via the Customer Helpline on 03457 22 33 44 or Textphone 03457 22 33 55.
