A FORMER Llandeilo man has been jailed for three years and four months for a second set of offences involving underage sex.

Simon James Teague, 41, had previously been dealt with by the courts in 2012 when he was convicted of downloading more than 7,000 indecent images of children.

But what was not known at the time of the earlier hearing was that he had been having sexual intercourse with a 14-year-old girl.

Appearing at Swansea crown court on Friday, Teague admitted five offences of sexual intercourse with a child.

Paul Hobson, prosecuting, told the court that Teague had been working at an antiques shop in the town some years ago when he struck up a friendship with the schoolgirl.

He gave her small presents and paid her compliments in what could now been seen as grooming her with the intention of indulging in sexual activity with her.

Mr Hobson said Teague took the youngster for rides in his car and went on to have sexual intercourse with her in nearby country parks.

He told the court that the girl made a complaint several years later and, by that stage, viewed what Teague had done as rape.

Teague was arrested on suspicion of rape but, said Mr Hobson, the prosecution had to accept that there had been a relationship of some sort between them.

Teague, who gave an address in Queen Street, Neath, was made the subject of a restraining order preventing him from contacting the girl and also a sexual harm prevention order.
