Aberglasney Gardens is looking forward to its third annual Giant Vegetable Growing Competition – the only one in Wales.

The team at Aberglasney is set to welcome both experienced gardeners and novices to the popular event which will be judged by gardening guru Medwyn Williams MBE on Sunday, October 25.

Last year competitors from near and far came together to show off vegetables of monster proportions and head gardener at Aberglasney, Joseph Atkin hopes to see many more first time competitors this year: “We’re pleased that our competition attracts some very serious growers, in previous years we’ve had world record breaking swedes and tomatoes on display, but it’s great to see people growing vegetables for the first time and enjoying competing.”

Last year a carrot measuring more than three metres and a 72cm runner bean were among produce on show at Aberglasney.

As well as judging the competition Medwyn Williams will once again be taking visitors questions alongside Aberglasney head gardener Joseph Atkin in a special gardeners question time.

Not only is the competition free to enter but the prizes in each class are also well worth your efforts, 1st prize is £40 or a joint annual membership for Aberglasney worth £65; 2nd prize is £20 or a single annual membership for Aberglasney worth £45; and 3rd prize is a family day ticket for the Gardens (2 adults & 2 children.)
