THREE MEN have been bailed while police carry out further enquiries into a serious assault outside a Swansea Valley pub that put one victim in hospital.

The incident, which took place outside the Copper Beech in Abercrave on February 9, saw two men assaulted at around midnight.

One of the victims was left with head and neck injuries that are not deemed to be life-threatening.

The motive for the attack is so far unclear. But the assault is the second serious attack in just four weeks in the upper Swansea Valley.

A month ago, an Ystradgynlais landlord was left needing surgery to his jaw after being viciously set upon by a gang of men outside the Gough Arms.

It is believed that the man was attacked after refusing to allow revellers into the pub after hours.

No-one had been charged in connection with that incident last night.

The three men released on bail while police continue their investigations into the more recent assault were arrested early last week.

A Dyfed-Powys Police spokeswoman said: "Three men have been bailed pending further enquiries.

"One of the victims was taken to hospital with head and neck injuries.

"Thankfully, they were not life-threatening."
