It was a mixed weekend for Ammanford Cricket Club.

While the Third XI celebrated a convincing win, the First XI suffered a disappointing defeat.

The First XI's hopes to escape the relegation zone of Premier 1 were dashed on August 10 when they lost at Bridgend by 22 runs in a contentious match marred by disputes and disagreements.

The match, reduced to 34 overs due to rain, saw Bridgend all out in the final over for 128.

Despite spirited fielding performances from Owen Davies, who claimed three wickets, and skipper Alun Evans with the bat contributing 35 runs, Ammanford could only manage 106 runs.

The team's lacklustre batting performance exacerbated the situation, as Bridgend's Aaron Davies managed to bag four for 13 and Elijah Fulker took three for 17.

The loss keeps Ammanford embroiled in the tense three-way race against Neath and bottom-club Pentyrch to stave off relegation, and places heavy expectations on next week's game at the Park against Swansea.

However, it was not all gloom for Ammanford, as their Thirds triumphed over Llangennech in a convincing 96-run victory.

Opening batsman John Jones’ stellar innings of 82 and an unbeaten 59 from S. Evans pushed Ammanford's score to 219 for nine.

Despite Llangennech batsman J. Hodson’s solid 47, they were dismissed for 123 within 34 overs.

Evans continued his splendid performance, proving his mettle as the man of the match by taking four for eight.

Arun Matthews dealt the decisive blow, claiming five wickets for just 32 runs.
