Cwmamman United FC got the new Macron league season off to a winning start, beating Penlan AFC with a score of 5-3.

The action-packed game, full of quality football, kept the Grenig Park crowd on the edge of their seats on Tuesday evening.

As the bookies' favourite to win the league, Penlan was taken by surprise.

A neat move by Cwm in the 5th minute saw Taylor Smith outmanoeuvre a full back and score from a challenging angle, putting Cwm in the lead.

Despite two potentially unjust penalty decisions that had Penlan shooting ahead with Luke Edwards’ converting both, Cwm managed to rapidly recover.

Elliot Smith awed the crowd with a wonder goal, a superb curling shot from the edge of the box straight past the goalie into the far corner.

Penlan took the lead again at the 58-minute mark with a strong shot that ricocheted off keeper Lewis Gibbs’ save, straight to Luke Dalling who easily slotted it home.

Showing great resolve, Cwm responded almost immediately.

A corner kick mishandled by the Penlan defence gave Cam Williams the chance to drive the ball into the net.

Things took a turn for the worse for Penlan when Luke Gear was given a red card in the 65th minute.

At first seeming unaffected by the player deficit, Cwm eventually began to increase their control of the game.

In the 88th minute, Williams scored another goal, delivering a header from a cross which put Cwm in the lead at 4-3.

This action triggered wild celebrations throughout Grenig Park.

Tragedy struck Penlan once again when Jack Jenkins was red-carded for pulling back a Cwm player breaking towards goal.

Cwm finished off the match in style when Ryan Cole charged through just as the clock hit the 93rd minute, chipping the ball over the keeper to secure the win.
