Llandybie travelled to Cae Ffair to play Trimsaran with 17 players unavailable and no forward cover but managed to put on a spirited display against a strong home side.
Llandybie gave away a penalty almost from kick off for lying on in the ruck kicked by Corey Phillips and from good forward drives forced their way over for a try soon after to lead 10–0.
The visitors put in tremendous work in the tackle with every man playing his part. Good line speed by Nick Morris forced a loose pass from the hosts and centre Josh Watkins picked up to weave past two defenders to run in a good try converted by Iestyn Richards. Llandybie captain Jordan Tommason took a quick throw and Watkins kicked long giving pursuit with Morris, but the Trim cover just cleared their lines.
The hosts applied sustained attacks with one unfortunate incident where three Llandybie players collided making a tackle with the referee blowing straight away with the players clashing heads.
Garin Criddle and Cam Morgan had to leave the field after a lengthy hold up to have HIA’s and did not return which is Llandybie club policy. With the visitors trying to re-organise and a man down Trim scored two quick tries, one from the only scrum Llandybie lost all afternoon, to lead 24 – 7 at half time.
In the second half Llandybie had Tommason yellow carded for knocking on trying to make an interception. The visitors competed well in the Trim line outs with Alex Comey putting pressure on the home throws. |Tom Davies at full back fielded the high balls well and Iestyn Richards kept Llandybie going forward with long touch finders, however Llandybie could not win their own throw when it mattered. The second half was stalemate for long periods with the visitors working hard to contain the Trim rushes. With Llandybie tiring through their efforts Trimsaran scored two late tries and had a forward red carded for use of the elbow.
Llandybie can be pleased with the immense effort put in by the whole team eventually going down 34 – 7 in a tough battle. Next week Llandybie are home to Bynea RFC.
