Cwmamman produced another strong footballing display following up on their recent away win at Garden Village with an excellent 3-0 home victory against Giants Grave.

With the sides at 6th and 7th place respectively the win was important to hold on to the league’s leading pack and both teams played attacking football from the beginning.

Cwm were having most of the possession with Ryan Cole, David Brown and Nikki Parvin controlling the midfield but Giants Grave’s experienced defenders were extremely solid and breaking attacks down in the final third.

Both sides had opportunities in the first half with Cwm’s Elliot and Taylor Smith both coming close only to be foiled by young Grave goalkeeper Kelson Mckenzie who made two outstanding saves.

Harrison Thomas and debutant Cameron Williams were also defending well but two quick attacks saw Giants Grave hit the woodwork twice with Cwm keeper Callum Andrews being called upon to make some very good saves. No goals at the break with Cwm edging the game territorially.

The second half saw Cwm increase the intensity and Taylor Smith and Nathan Wickham on the flanks were creating major issues for the Grave defence as they regularly broke to the byline and peppered the opponent’s box with testing passes and crosses.

The first goal came though from a corner in the 56th min as the ball was dropped and Elliot Smith was lightning fast to tap it home.

It now appeared to be a wave of Cwm attacks but Cwm were stunned in the 76th min when Smith received his second yellow after the ball hit his raised hand as he attempted to head home in the opposing goalmouth.

This did not deter Cwm and they finished even stronger as Charlie Davies and the outstanding Taylor Smith scored for an excellent 3 -0 win and 3 important points.

Final score: Cwmamman United 3 – 0 Giants Grave.

On Friday, November 10, Cwm are again at home at Grenig Park under the lights to Cwm Wanderers in a rearranged Macron West Wales League game. K.O 7.15pm.
