Ammanford rider Lewis Jones has finished his racing year with a podium at Donington Park British Superbike Championship weekend, riding his KTM in the Hel Junior Supersports rounds within the top British racing series.

Day one was met with bad weather that meant racing was impossible to continue with the track under water and visibility non-existent but the BSB was back in action on the second day.

Despite the slippery conditions Jones’s weekend began successfully as he held a first and a second place.

Jones placed third on the grid in qualifying putting him in his first front-row position.

Race one saw him making a superb start off the line and getting away in a group of three leading the race.

He was able to snatch second place by the second lap, just over a second off the leader.

Jones maintained control of his second place until the seventh lap when he dropped to third, and he held that placing to the chequered flag, rounding off his British Superbike support season with a heard-ridden podium place.

The pack closed up in the second race on the opening few laps with Jones dropping back to gain space. As he fought to catch up he lost ground and lost the front end of the KTM attempting an outbreaking pass on two rivals and slid into retirement.

But Jones was able to put the slip behind him as later in the day Team Lewis Racing celebrated the podium together.

The Ammanford rider said: “An amazing end to my 2020 race season – my first BSB support podium. My thanks to all my sponsors for getting me there, and my family and team for the fantastic sport all year.”
