AMMANFORD AFC kicked off their pre-season campaign with an entertaining encounter between Penybont FC.

Penybont, last year’s Welsh League Division One champions, came away with the victory, picking up a 2-1 in at home.

Despite defeat, there was plenty to take away for Ammanford as they prepare for another season in the newly renamed FAW Championship South.

Indeed both managers, Rhys Griffiths of Penybont and Gruff Harrison of Ammanford, will be satisfied with their respective teams performances, and have plenty of positives to build off of moving forward with their preparations.

Two quality first half strikes were enough to seal the win for the hosts.

First Curtis Hutson, and then Adam Carpenter, found the net in the opening period to give Penybont a 2-0 half time advantage.

Both sides rung the changes in readiness for the second half, and the fresh legs of Ammanford ensured they won the second period.

It was their star signing Lee Trundle who got the goal.

The ex-Swansea City man was making his debut for Ammanford and wasted little time in making his mark and showing his new fans what he is capable of.

That was the only goal of the second half as a well organised Penybont defence prevented Ammanford from snatching an equaliser.

Both teams move on to more friendly games before their respective leagues start in earnest.
