Llanelli & District Cup Semi Final
Carmarthen Athletic - 3
Ammanford - 31
For the second year running, Ammanford will take to the Parc y Scarlets pitch as they compete in the Castell Howell Cup final after avenging last year’s final defeat against Carmarthen Athletic.
It was the hosts who came out on top, 38-21, last year, but a fast start from Ammanford made sure there would be no repeat this time round.
They got the start they craved when experienced winger Gary Stephens scored out wide, before Cerith Evans knocked through a difficult conversion to make it 7-0.
Evans added a penalty following a spell of good Ammanford pressure to extend the lead, before Carmarthen were reduced to 14 men, with a man sent to the bin for consistent infringements.
Ammanford made the most of their man advantage as a quick tap and go penalty yielded another converted try for the visitors.
Carmarthen eventually opened their account with a penalty on the stroke of half time, but it would be there only score of the half.
Evans had the chance to strike back with penalty of his own late in the half, but missed, his only error of the day from the kicking tee.
A second yellow card shortly before the break meant the hosts started the second half a man down, and Ammanford wasted little time running in two further tries.
Centre, Oliver Cleverley claimed both scores, with Evans again on form with the boot, adding both conversions from in front of the posts.
The score remained at 31-3 for the rest of the match, with a number of injuries from both sides resulting in a host of substitutions which disrupted the flow of the game.
Ammanford held on to see out a comfortable victory away from home in the perfect cup performance, and secure their place in the final of the Llanelli & District Cup for the second year running.
They will face Newcastle Emlyn at Parc y Scarlets after Tycroes suffered a 48-10 defeat at their hands in the other semi final of the competition.
