WRU Division 2 West

Mumbles - 17

Tycroes - 19

Tycroes fought back from a 17 point deficit to claim victory against Mumbles.

The first game of the new year saw Tycroes take a trip to the seaside, travelling away to Mumbles.

It was very slow start from the visitors as with 18 minutes gone Tycroes saw themselves 17 points down, three tries and a conversion being scored in the opening exchanges.

Things went from bad to worse for the visitors when flanker, Daryl John was sent to the sin bin for ten minutes.

After John's return Tycroes finally troubled the scoreboard as Shaun Jones crossed in the corner for an unconverted try.

With Tycroes applying the pressure it was then John himself who crossed over to score their second try.

Powering through some weak tackling, the flanker crossed the whitewash and touched down between the posts to allow Lee Evans to knock through the extras.

Trailing 17-12 at half time, Tycroes attempted to open up the game in the second half with a more expansive game.

With the game ebbing from tryline to tryline they finally took the lead when the ball was swept wide for captian Luc Rees to cross in the corner.

Evans struck a sweet conversion through the middle of the uprights to make it 19-17.

Rather than hanging on for the win, it was Tycroes who were attacking in the dying moments in search of a bonus point score which never came.

Their next game will see them host St Clears.
