WRU Division 3B West

Llandybie – 30

Cefneithin – 22

LLANDYBIE claimed their first win of the season in an entertaining encounter with Cefneithin.

Tries for Lyndon Davies, Eirian Williams and Nathaniel Butler were enough to hand the hosts a 30-22 victory, despite Dan Jones, Jackson Burnell and Deon Thomas striking for Cefneithin.

Oy was Llandybie who started the better of the two sides, and they earned an early penalty.

Lee Davies put the ball into touch, and the pack set up a driving maul.

Flanker, Butler broke off from the back of the maul to dive over in the corner for the opening score of the game.

Cefn hit back with a sustained spell of pressure of their own. Eventually, that pressure turned into points as Dan Jones dived over, with Richard Watts converting the score to make it 7-5 in the visitors’ favour.

Llandybie went back on the attack, continuing the back and forth nature of the match, throwing the ball wide and stretching the defence.

Good interplay by the forwards saw the ball worked to Lyndon Davies, who was unstoppable from 15 yards out, crossing for the first of his two tries.

Lee Davies added the extras for the hosts.

Llandybie were pushing again, but inside the Cefn 22 the ball was stolen, and a monster clearing kick flipped the field.

Cefn then stole the line out, and managed to set up a drive that saw Jackson Burnell cross for the score, which was converted.

In response Davies scored his second try.

The hosts almost crossed twice, before the ball was eventually recycled to Davies, who put his side 19-14 up.

Cefneithin pegged Llandybie back with a penalty before the hosts were reduced to 14 men, Lee Davies seeing yellow for offside. Cefn took the three points on offer to reduce the deficit further.

However, Llandybie continued to keep the scoreboard ticking over as Matthew Lloyd slotted a penalty while down a man.

Dafydd Nicholas replaced winger Ceiran Jones and straight away went on a run with a kick through the defence but he was just beaten to the touchdown.

Cefn kicked for position fielded by left winger Rhydian jones who ran it back and from the ruck Davies who had just returned from the bin put in a great cross kick to find flanker Eirian Williams who broke the tackle to stride in for a try.

Another penalty came the way of Llandybie, before Cefn’s Deon Thomas claimed the final score of the game, touching down out wide to make it 30-22 to the hosts.
