National League Division 2 West

Tycroes – 29

Tumble – 10

AFTER the disappointment of relegation last season, a young Tycroes side got their Division 2 West campaign off to the perfect start with a bonus point win over Tumble.

Tries from Mickey Hopkin, Elgan Griffiths, Darryl John and Shaun Jones were enough to better Tumble as the hosts ran out 29-10 winners.

It was Tycroes who registered the first score, as wing Hopkin rounded the Magpies defence to touch down.

Scrum half, Lee Evans added the conversion to hand his side the dream start.

There was a set back for the hosts soon after though, as a nasty looking head wound meant the end of the game and a trip to hospital for centre Steve Roach.

With the backline readjusting to the loss of the influential playmaker, Tumble were able to run a score, though the conversion was missed.

As half time approached, it was the turn of the right wing, Griffiths, to score for Tycroes, handing his team a 12-5 lead at half time.

The hosts continued to press at the start of the second half, and Evans added a penalty before a push over try allowed John to add his name to the score sheet, with Evans converting.

Tumble struck back through Leighton McKenna, but a tricky conversion was missed.

With the final whistle drawing nearer, and the win secure, Tycroes pushed for a bonus point.

It was clinched in the final minutes as Shaun Jones finished off a lovely move between forwards and backs, running in unopposed under the posts.

Evans added the extras once again and sealed the 29-10 victory.

Next week his side travel to Pontarddulais.
