PONTARDAWE JUBILEE CLUB – An excellent day of power lifting was had on Saturday, September 7 at the club. This was once again organised by Ken Williams, who also has a fitness club in Trebanos, and is open to any youngster of any age.

Among the competitors on Saturday was a gentleman from Georgia, Russia, who flew to the UK on Friday to coach from Heathrow, and a taxi from Swansea to Pontardawe on Saturday. It was a successful trip as he came away with a few cups.

PONTY SENIORS – We began a new season of entertainment, following a month off in August, Rev Clive Williams began with a documentary on the composer Verdi. It is amazing how he gets all his information to give a good musical talk, he was thanked by Brian Francis.

CWMTAWE COMPREHENSIVE SCHOOL – Year seven pupils went on an annual short break to the Chateau du Brutel in Rue in the north of France, enjoying a visit to the new and improved Bagatelle theme park, and a guided tour of the historic little town of Rue.

They also participated in abseiling canoeing, rafting, archery and fencing. The food at the Chateau was first class, and pupils were even served snails and frog legs.

On the return journey there was a last minute shopping stop at Cite Europe giving pupils the perfect opportunity to practise their French.
