After his show we did manage to elicit a promise of a return visit at a future date.

We had two new members join us, one from Penygroes and one from Maes y Coed. Our net seems to be spreading wider.

PROBUS CLUB – After the usual August break the club met again on September 5 with president Vivian Preece in charge. Members stood in silence for a minute to respect the loss of David Williams a member on the supplementary list, after a long illness.

Social secretary, Derrick Bithray reported that the proposed visit to St Athan on October 3 has been cancelled due to changes at the intended venue, but that he was hoping to arrange a trip later. This year the carol service and Christmas lunch will both be held at the Mountain Gate, Tycroes.

After a short break local historian, Terry Norman, gave an illustrated talk on Ammanford in a series of panoramic views to show how the town has changed over the years, with the disappearance of familiar places and new developments. Terry’s comprehensive knowledge of the town was praised by Elmer Harries in an elegant vote of thanks in which, as a former chief executive in local government, he confessed that he may have had some responsibility for the loss of some of the landmarks now being seen somewhat nostalgically.
