Cwmamman Utd 3 Penydarren BGC 2

With Cwmamman Utd two goals down at half time and the news that Ton Pentre were winning, Ryan Thomas and his players knew that it needed something special in the second half if Cwm were going to secure their Ardal South West status for next season - and boy did they deliver!

A stunning three goal comeback clinched the match late on, leading to huge relief and celebrations amongst players and supporters.

Cwm had been hoping for a great start similar to last week at Porth where they scored in the first minute but it turned out to be the opposite as Harri Moyle escaped the Cwm defence to tap home and give the visitors the lead.

Cwm settled and in a keenly contested match both sides created chances with Ryan Hurlow just being denied, while the team were also being asked to defend vigorously.

Luke Sherbon was immense for Cwm with Travis James, Elian Evans and Grant Rees providing excellent support in defence.

But then Cwm were struck another blow when Aaran Caffell doubled Peneydarran’s lead in the 38th minute, leaving Cwm with a mountain to climb.

Cwm knew their season hung on their second half performance and they came out with renewed determination.

The midfield of Geraint Rees, Jordan Simpson and Ross Morgan started to take hold of the game and in the 62nd minute, after just having brought himself on, Ryan Thomas put away the penalty for a handball and now Cwm were back in it.

Penydarren are a strong side and they continued to test the Cwm defence, but keeper Kai Rees was as solid as always.

Stuart Dunn came on for Ross Morgan and Cwm continued in search of the equaliser.

Just as it looked it wasn’t going to happen, top scorer Calem Rees struck in the 82th minute.

With the visitors getting nervy, Cwm kept pressing and to great scenes the Cwm supporters' man of the match Kyle Ashford struck the winner in the 87th minute to snatch victory.

A tense last few minutes were well seen out and Cwm could enjoy a great 3-2 win, and securing their league status for next season.

Ryan Thomas Cwm manager said: I can’t praise the boys enough.

"The way they fought back against one of the best sides in the league was outstanding."
