AMMANFORD 0  PONTYPRIDD TOWN 2

Report by Ammanford AFC

JD Cymru South league leaders Pontypridd Town completed the double over Ammanford as goals in each half from Aiden Lewis and Drew Fahiya sealed a 2-0 win on Friday night.

The win kept Ponty four points clear at the top of the table and left Ammanford in 11th position, after their 10th league defeat of the campaign.

Ammanford AFC missed an opportunity to take the lead in this home game as early as the 10th minute when Matthew Fisher found himself with a one on one against Pontypridd’s goalkeeper Morgan Davies inside the box.

Davies inexplicably pushed Fisher to the ground and the referee had the simplest of decisions to make as he pointed to the penalty spot.

Fisher got up and placed the ball on the penalty spot, but he tried to direct his low strike to the goalkeeper’s left. Morgan Davies went the right way, and comfortably saved the the penalty.

Fourteen minutes later Pontypridd took the lead after some last ditch defending that would have graced a pinball machine. Blocks from the Ammanford defence were coming in from every angle until the ball broke kindly to Pontypridd’s Aiden Lewis, who lofted his shot into the roof of the net.

Ammanford struggled to get a grip on the game and were missing their talisman striker Lee Trundle, who was suspended for this fixture.

Pontypridd were in control and held their one goal advantage to the half time break, before tightening their control on the game when Drew Fahiya scored in the 54th minute with a well taken goal to double the lead.

Despite a spirited effort from the home side the league leaders controlled the game and they ran out comfortable winners in the end.

Ammanford have a chance to climb the table when they travel to play Trefelin BGC at the weekend, with their opponents one point above in 10th position in the league standings.
