Report from Ammanford AFC.

AMMANFORD AFC were back home and under the lights for their latest Friday evening JD Cymru South game against Risca United, who hit back twice to earn an entertaining 2-2 draw.

Lee Trundle and Tristan Jenkins twice gave the home side the lead, only for Ryan Wheeler and Callum Hodges to equalise.

Determined to take the game to their opponents from the off, the hosts didn’t have to wait long for the opening goal of the game.

In the seventh minute Ammanford’s Lee Trundle was fouled some 25 yards out from the visitors’ goal in a fairly central position, ideal for a direct strike.

The Swansea City legend unleashed a shot that rocketed into the roof of the Risca net, giving goalkeeper Joseph Massaro no chance of saving.

Risca were rocked, but the visitors galvanised and started to push Ammanford back and were edging themselves closer and closer to the home goal.

Indeed, it took a good save from keeper Craig Morris, using his feet, to deny Risca an equaliser.

The visitors were not to be denied, however, and Ryan Wheeler finished off a good passing move to level the scores.

As the first half was drawing to a close a sublime individual run from Ammanford’s Tristan Jenkins, which had started just inside Risca’s half, saw him slalom his way passed several defenders into the left edge of the Risca penalty area.

He looked up and angled his cross-shot, which was delivered with slide rule precision into the far corner of the net to restore his team’s lead.

Manager Gruff Harrison’s half time team talk was made a lot easier by the wonder strike.

The second half saw Risca continue to try and find their way back into the game.

The Risca defence kept a high line and stifled the Ammanford attack, whilst the home side were coping with their opponents.

But in the 70th minute a cross into the Ammanford box saw Risca’s centre back Callum Hodges rise higher than anyone and head the ball into the unguarded Ammanford goal net to level the score again at 2-2.

The last 20 minutes saw Ammanford try to fight back, but Risca stood firm and also had their moments to win it.

In the end neither side could find the cutting edge to break the deadlock, and both teams had to settle for a point apiece.
