Ammanford AFC kicked off Tuesday night's game against Llantwit Major with a good tempo at the Rec.

However, the home team were quickly rocked back on their heels when the lively Major forward Joshua Jones broke free from his markers in the 7th minute and scored the opening goal of this game.

Ammanford were struggling to cope with the pace of Jones as he broke the Ammanford defensive lines time and time again.

Ammanford tried to find a flow to their game but the visitors were dogged in their defensive play.

It was another Major breakaway in the 38th minute that led to a penalty award. The spot kick was taken by Thomas Walters who wrong footed home keeper Craig Morris to double the lead for the visitors.

Ammanford needed a response and within two minutes an intricate passing move led to Liam Samuel firing a shot from the left hand side of the six yard box high into the roof of the Llantwit Major goal net to reduce the deficit.

Half-time and the visitors held a deserved lead.

The second half saw Ammanford try to get themselves back on level terms but struggled to get out of their own half due to the high pressing of the visitors.

In the 71st minute Major’s Cullen Kinsella jinked his way into the Ammanford’s 18 yards box and with a slight shift of the ball he unleashed a powerful shot that bulged the Ammanford goal net.

Ammanford, 3-1 down, tried to get back in the game but couldn’t find the cutting edge and were susceptible to the visitors counter attacks.

At the final whistle it was Llantwit Major who celebrated their away win.

Ammanford AFC travel to Swansea University for their next JD Cymru South league game on Friday, August 13.
