A BUS stop on the notorious stretch of the A48 at Cwmgwili should be removed as no-one ever uses it, Llandybie community councillors have decided.

Members had been asked to give their views by the Trunk Road Agency who had earmarked the bus stop at Cwmgwili Junction for removal as part of the new junction layout.

TRA chiefs felt the stop would interfere with the new eastbound acceleration/merge lane , pointing out that buses coming from Cross Hands would in future enter Cwmgwili to pick up and drop off passengers before turning round and rejoining the dual carriageway.

Technical officer Brian James backed the move. "Anyone living in Cwmgwili would have to cross the A48 to use this stop," he said.

"Provided they lived to tell the tale," interjected community clerk Megan Bevan.

County councillor Peter Cooper observed that there were no houses along that particular stretch.

"I wouldn't like to cross that road and I've never seen anyone using that bus stop," he added. "The best thing to do is to get rid of it."
