Maesteg Celtic v Ammanford second XI

Ammanford's second string benefited from the switch in venues as they played out a complete match in sunshine at Maesteg - a stark contrast to conditions back home!

Celtic won the toss and elected to bat - a decision influenced by the fact that only eight of their players were present at the game's beginning.

After a ponderous start saw only 50 runs scored from the first 20 overs, Jeff Evans then made severe inroads into the Maesteg batting line-up bagging three victims for just 10 runs in a six over spell.

He was well supported by Tregib schoolboy Bryn Jones who took 2 for 30 as the Ammanford attack restricted their hosts to 150 for 7.

But what seemed like a very reachable target provided some difficulty as the visitors got off to a dreadful start when three of their bright young stars returned to the pavilion with just 20 runs on the board.

It was left to veteran Hugh Ledger to steady the Amman boat with a sensible 26, but the rot looked like setting in again when UWIC student Andrew Walters was dismissed for a duck.

It was left to two youngsters - Jason Rosser and Nathan Jones - to exert some calming influence, and when Nathan departed for 15 his father Wynne came to the middle to finish the job with an unbeaten 33 - Ammanford were home by four wickets.
