Amman United 25

Hendy 21

Despite two late tries from the visitors that made the final scoreline far more respectable, Amman United emerged probably deserved winners in a typical end-of-season encounter at Cwmaman Park.

Both sides tried to run everything, in a match which became one of two halves in truth. After notching an early try to make it 5-0, Amman increased their advantage when full-back Gavin Lewis accepted an invitation to run from deep in his own half, and chipped ahead, winning the race to the loose ball to touch down a fine individual score.

Outside-half Adrian Thomas, who had a fine match, converted and added a penalty in the first-half as United had the better of the possession.

The home-side crossed for a third try before half-time, centre Alan Davies making one of his trademark breaks, slicing the Hendy defence apart before giving speedy winger Steve 'Rice' Rees the chance to glide in unopposed for a neat try.

Hendy got their first points on the board with an early try after the interval, but the Cwmaman Park men bounced back when Gavin Lewis was credited with the try after emerging from a mound of bodies.

Hendy became stronger as the second-half went on, and gained due reward for their efforts with two late scores.

In the end, it was the visitors who doing the pressing, before the referee finally called "time".

Amman made several changes as the match wore on.

The hardworking forwards Graham Bundock, Pat Nolan and Graham Watkins were replaced with fresh legs as Amman rang the changes.

The Amman back row in particular went well, Graham Watkins, Alun Rees and Steve Morris working well as an unit.
