MARK JAMES, the new Chief Executive of Carmarthenshire Council, witnessed at first hand the issues that face local communities in the Tywi area during his recent visit.

Accompanied by the chairman of the Teifi Tywi Area Committee, Councillor Denley Owen, Mr. James travelled to communities in the Llandovery and Llandeilo area.

Among the places they visited was the mansion at Gelli Aur, which is to become a Media Technium.

The Wiltshire-based developers Hartham Park are investing £9.7 million in the refurbishment and conversion of the building.

The venture will employ 180 people in highly-skilled work and provide accommodation for around 30 businesses.

Mr. James said of his visit: "The time I spent in the Tywi area was very useful.

"It's one thing hearing about these various projects and the concerns that the local members have.

"But it is important that I see for myself exactly what it is we're discussing."

During his visit, the chief executive also confirmed that a bid had recently been lodged by the county council for the construction of a new £775,000 swimming pool at Ysgol Gyfun Tregib.

"When I met with the local member for Tregib, he was concerned that a bid hadn't been submitted," he said.

"I was pleased to be able to allay his fears and confirm that a bid had, in fact, been made earlier this month."

Mr. James is currently touring the county, visiting other projects and meeting local residents and councillors.
